So I haven’t written a blog post in way too long, but I figured Star Wars Day (and my birthday) are perfect enough reasons to get back over here. I’ve been stepping up my nail art game each year for my birthday…and by ‘stepping up’ I mean paying someone more talented to do it for me…and i am officially obsessed with this year’s Star Wars nail art! I gave artist Fleury Rose of Tomahawk Salon creative reign over my nail art, so long as it included Boba Fett and R2D2 and she rocked it! Continue reading
I had the pleasure of attending Mara Hoffman’s NYFW show last Saturday (thanks to Kosi giving up her ticket!) it just might be one of the best shows I’ve ever been to! Why? Because Mara in addition to pulling inspiration from Europe’s wild men, she used the iconic Luke Skywalker as her muse for the collection. While Mara Hoffman is known for her bohemian chic style, this line took a trip to Tunisia (where the Tatooine scenes of Star Wars are filmed) to show us just what it means to be a stylish Jedi! Across a runway backdropped by Tatooine’s binary sunset, the show began with a snippet of (what else?) Episode IV’s “Binary Sunset” composition. The F/W15 collection comes replete with geometric designs, crepe fabrics, chiffon tufting appliqués, Tatooine-reminiscent color-ways and exactly the kind of drape you’d expect of said stylish Jedi. While intricate braids paid homage to Princess Leia, their nail art caught my eye and I can’t wait to do a tutorial on it for Lacquer Saturday! Continue reading
I would say my dad/stepdad (and uncles) are half the reason I’m a geek, but it’s really more like 70%. From introducing me to the X-Men, Star Wars, Kung-Fu Movies and every Nintendo console since the SNES to helping me grow (and restore) my comic book collection and speculating on the upcoming Star Wars movies, both my dads have been such a big part of making me who I am today.
I’m happy to have some of my biggest interests in common with you two, so I thank you both for being geeks that you are and nurturing me into one too! I love you!
Today, and this whole weekend for that matter, is going to be LEGEND- …wait for it…
While we’re waiting:
- It’s My Birthday! (I’m 25 today, which makes me feel a little old but completely awesome!)
- It’s Star Wars Day!! Not only do you get to tell everyone “May the 4th be with you” all day long, there’s a bunch of awesomeness that goes along with it being Star Wars Day. Like BN.com having all sorts of Star Wars book on sale…well does it still count as a sale if they’re free!? In any case, go read!
- It’s Free Comic Book Day: And who doesn’t like free stuff? Check here for your local participating stores!
- Iron Man 3 came out yesterday! We saw it, loved it and plan to see it again! (Pepper Pots finally gets some action!)
- It’s My Birthday!
- Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo- time for some
7. Tomorrow is also Sith day! (Revenge of the Fifth) So for those of you who have fallen or (or just vacation on) the dark side, we’re celebrating your awesomeness too!
Oh yea you’re still waiting for it…-ARY!
As many of you may remember, J.J. Abrams initially told us all he wouldn’t be directing the upcoming Star Wars VII, and it broke all of our hearts. Then we get word that he will be directing my beloved Star Wars after all, although neither he nor Disney gave any official statements so needless to say I was a bit hesitant to say anything about it in fear of getting my hopes up.
But I prayed to the filmmaking gods for Abrams to stop playing with my emotions and we (finally) have the official word from the good folks at Lucasfilm, that Abrams will in fact direct Star Wars: Episode VII. It’ll be the first of a new series of who-knows-how-many films to come from Lucasfilm/Disney. We already know that Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay and Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi [my two favorite episodes]) will also be a consultant on the project. So I have to say, I’m really looking forward to this movie now! Since the purchase I’ve been a bit uneasy about what Disney might do with my saga, but there really isn’t anyone better to direct Star Wars than Abrams. Being a fan of the franchise himself puts a lot of Star Wars geeks at ease, as he for all intents and purposes knows the “essence” of Star Wars.
If you aren’t familiar with J.J. Abrams (kindly come out from under your rock), he and his production company Bad Robot are responsible for Star Trek, Super 8, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost and Fringe (the latter of which I loved until they got rid of Peter…seriously the show is useless without him). George Lucas <3’s Abrams too: “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”…you can’t really get a better thumbs up than that! And of course J.J. reciprocates the love: “I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid.”
Tell me I’m not the only one excited for the upcoming Star Wars!?
