Lacquer Saturday: I’m in a Hurry!

I’ve realized I’m kind of a last-minute sort of person when it comes to my nails. I decide which color to change them to about 20 min before I need to leave the house, and I haven’t gotten dressed yet. As such I’ve been getting a lot of use from the (so-called) quick dry top coats, which sometimes aren’t as quick as we’d like them to be. So this week I’m sharing my top three picks for the best “quick dry” top coats!

#3: Essie Good to Go- As big of an Essie fan as I am, I have to put their quick dry top coat in last place on this one. It’s not awful, I definitely thought it would dry quicker than it did, but I’d use it again if I’m in a jam.

#2: Sephora Quick Dry Spray- This one isn’t a polish but instead a spray, and it worked way better than I expected. I tried it out in the store over a Sephora by OPI color I was trying out (I figure Sephora wouldn’t allow you to open nail polish bottles if they didn’t want me to sample them)

Lacquer Saturday: OPI – Fly

I’m really more of an Essie girl at heart but sometimes I find these super-cute OPI colors and I just can’t help myself! As is the case with this blue-green colors from the Nicki Minaj x OPI Collection called ‘Fly“. So as Fly is one of my favorite songs from her (I feel like it’s one of the realest songs on that album) I made no hesitation to ‘buy it now’ on Ebay and try it out real quick. With the exception of the ‘Pink Friday’ (a pastel pink hue) the collection is a range of bold and bright colors, which is what I tend to gravitate towards as we go into spring. The ‘Fly’ color is a little tropical, which is a good pick-me-up from this disrespectfully windy and cold weather we’ve been experiencing:

4Q’s with Mess Queen

I first noticed Courtney Gamble a.k.a. the MessQueen’s designs at a fashion show a few months ago and have been dying to get in touch with her ever since! As someone who’s put the leggings trend to good use over the past year (along with the rest of the world) her designs are exactly what I’ve been waiting for! With the intricate details and vibrant colors, these aren’t your everyday leggings- You better have someplace to go in these! Her beautifully outrageous designs look like they were made for Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj themselves…and with that being said I made sure to find out all about her new line!

How long have you been designing and what made you start with leggings?
I started designing when I went to school for fashion design at 18 years old. Learning how to do everything from scratch was a bit overwhelming for the first several months so I would work in the labs until closing every night trying to perfect my newly learned skills. I made my first pair of leggings for my final collection project in the fifth semester (Sept. ’07). They were purple and black leopard printed cotton lycra with a turquoise nylon triangle patch on each knee. They were an instant hit! I decided to concentrate on making leggings after realizing how attracted people were to them. I had so many ideas for new designs and after finding all the spandex fabric hot spots, I was hooked.
