New Fav: Shea Moisture

via target.com

Thanks to some hefty samples I received at the Natural Pool Party earlier this summer I’ve been using Shea Moisture products for most of the month. Since I’ve been running through the gallon sized Wen a lot quicker than I expected to I’ve been substituting with the Deep Treatment Masque, and this might be my new obsession. It conditions my hair just as well or even…dare I say…better than the Wen AND it’s only $10! Now you all know I love me some Wen but at $40 for a 32 ounce bottle and $126 for the gallon (yea I’m still feeling the effects of that) I can’t run through it like I want to.

So first I was mixing the two products but for the past two weeks I’ve been using the Shea Moisture as my co-wash exclusively and my hair loves it. Along with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, I’ve had a new regimen for these last few summer weeks! In an effort to stay away from heat before I go back to the blowouts this fall I’ve been doing the braid outs and twist-outs again. I don’t know if it’s the shea butter, or the kelp but less can go farther with the masque BUT the same does not go for the Curl Enhancing Smoothie! Maybe the product concentration is different on the smoothie than with the masque but I used just as much if not more than I normally do with other leave-in conditioner type products. I tried using less at first but my hair didn’t feel fully saturated and I ended up with dry sections if I didn’t add more. I have to say though I since the first time on the masque + smoothie my hair is so soft I find myself playing in my hair at my desk more often than I should be!

Sidenote: Walgreens does a BOGO deal every so often for Shea Moisture (buy one get one half off)!

  1. I used both of these products in the past and I still have a bit more product left of the Deep Treatment Mask and for a reason I kind of like it as a leave in or even as a styling pomade for braid outs and, twist outs (mostly during winter mos.) but don’t really care for it as a deep conditioner. I feel like it doesn’t seep into my hair intead it sits on top of it. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate it but for $10 I guess I will be sticking with just the moisturizing curling smoothie which I actually love but a little definitely goes a long way at least in my experience. My hair doesn’t agree with heavy butter to well(build up) but my hair love oil which it also has soooo yea. Love the review. Check me out at http://ishaondahour.blogspot.com/
