Marvel Comics Shows Its Support for Gay Marriage!

24 May

Truth be told my comic book attention has been mainly on the Avengers vs. Xmen series as of late, but a different series just recaptured my attention with it’s newest issue. As if I wasn’t already a proud Marvel girl, my loyalty was only reaffirmed yesterday when my stepfather came home with this:

Lacquer Saturday: Star Wars Love & Glitter Frenchies

12 May

I know I have’t done a nail post in a while, I didn’t mean to be neglectful! But now I have my two favorite manicures from the past few weeks to share with you now though. Firstly my nail art brushes came so I did my first ‘real’ nail art mani for Star Wars Day. C3PO, Stormtroopers and Boba Fett were the easiest for a beginner drawer like myself so that’s what we started with. Now that I’ve gotten the hang of the drawing though I’m sure there will be more to come!

Birthday Gift to Myself #1: Lego R2-D2

25 Apr

Every year for my favorite holiday, I get myself a an item or two as a birthday gift to myself. So even though toys haven’t been on my birthday list in a while, when I saw the new Lego R2-D2, I had to make an exception!

Part of me has slightly grown to dislike Lego, but thats mostly because the boy consistently leaves them on my floor for me to step on. Maybe I’ll let him help me put R2 together though. Maybe?

Via starwars.lego.com

The exclusive R2-D2 is appropriately* scheduled for a May 1 release for $179…now excuse me while I go look for some Lego coupons!

*Random Star Wars Fact: Every Star Wars movie was released in May*

4 Questions with Rue 114

21 Apr

My fellow FIT alum just continue to amaze me- meet Serwah Asante, the designer behind Rue 114! Focused on the feminine silhouette and celebrating beauty in every size, the Ghanian native released her Intro 2012 Capsule Collection “Et Dieu Créa La Femme” (And God Created Woman). See what Serwah had to say about African fashion and a few of my favorite pieces from her collection:

- With so many plus-size designers emerging, what sets Rue114 apart from the rest?
I think the key factors that set the Rue 114 design aesthetic apart from other plus designers are threefold 1) our attention design detail and point of view 2) our belief that “straight” and “plus” sized garments can be presented under the same designer brand in a way that flatters women of all shapes and sizes 3) our presentation of African inspired fashion in a manner that speaks to today’s woman
